➡️ Overview
Rayobyte’s Residential Proxies offer advanced customization, allowing you to:
- ✔ Authorize your connection through IP Authorization or Username/Password Authentication.
- ✔ Target IPs by country, region/state, and city directly from the Residential Proxy Dashboard.
- ✔ Enable Sticky Sessions to maintain the same IP for up to 60 minutes.
- ✔ Use advanced targeting options such as ZIP/postal code and ASN by manually adding parameters to your proxy password.
- ✔ Connect through HTTP or SOCKS5.
To access the dashboard-based settings covered in this guide, log in to your Rayobyte Dashboard.
Looking for ZIP, ASN, or SOCKS5 instructions? These newer options are covered in our Advanced Residential Proxy Targeting & SOCKS5 Guide.
➡️ Authentication Methods
Residential Proxies support two authentication methods that can be used simultaneously. You can authenticate with your proxy username and password, whitelist your public IP address, or use both methods at the same time.
✔ Username:Password Authentication
When you sign up for the Residential Proxy service, you receive a default username and proxy password.
These credentials must be included with each request to authenticate your proxy connection.
username123:password123@la.residential.rayobyte.com:8000
Username/password authentication supports:
- ✔ HTTP connections through port
8000 - ✔ SOCKS5 connections through port
1080 - ✔ You can update your proxy password from the Profile or service settings area of your dashboard.
- ✔ If you need your username changed, contact support@rayobyte.com or your account manager.
For SOCKS5 connection examples, see our Advanced Residential Proxy Targeting & SOCKS5 Guide.

Example: Changing your Residential Proxy password in the dashboard
✔ IP Authorization
If you prefer IP-based access, you can whitelist your device or network’s public IPv4 address directly from the dashboard.
- ✔ Log in to your Rayobyte Dashboard.
- ✔ Go to the Home page and enable IP Authorization.
- ✔ Add the public IPv4 addresses you want to whitelist and click Add IP.
It may take up to 5 minutes for a newly added IP address to become fully authorized. Once authorization is complete, you can generate proxy samples from the Proxy List Generator and begin using them.

✔ Simultaneous Usage
You can use IP Authorization and Username/Password Authentication at the same time. Whitelisted IPs remain authorized until you remove them, while username/password access remains available.
The primary difference is the hostname used for the connection:
- ✔ Username/Password Authentication:
la.residential.rayobyte.com - ✔ IP Authorization:
la.residential.ipauth.rayobyte.com
➡️ Default Proxy Format
By default, a Rayobyte Residential Proxy rotates its exit IP with each request and uses the following format:
username123:password123@la.residential.rayobyte.com:8000
You can customize this behavior using:
- Geo-targeting by country, region/state, or city
- Soft or Hard Sticky Sessions
- Advanced ZIP/postal code targeting
- Advanced ASN targeting
Country, region/state, city, and session options are available from the dashboard. ZIP and ASN targeting currently require manual proxy-password parameters.
For complete advanced syntax and examples, see our Advanced Residential Proxy Targeting & SOCKS5 Guide.
➡️ Enabling Geo-Targeting
✔ Step 1: Access Geo-Targeting Settings
- ✔ Log in to your Rayobyte Dashboard.
- ✔ Click Get Started under Residential Proxies.
- ✔ Locate Geolocation Selection and click Update.

✔ Step 2: Select Your Target Location
You can configure the following location options from the dashboard:
- ✔ Country:
username123:password123-country-US
- ✔ Region/State:
username123:password123-country-US-region-california
- ✔ City:
username123:password123-country-US-region-california-city-los_angeles

Note: Use underscores (_) instead of spaces for multi-word region/state and city names.
Examples:
New_YorkLos_Angeles
✔ Additional Targeting Options
Residential Proxies also support the following advanced targeting options:
- ZIP or Postal Code
- ASN (Autonomous System Number)
These options are not yet available as selectable controls in the current dashboard. For now, you must add the corresponding targeting parameters manually to your proxy password.
For formatting instructions, availability guidance, examples, and troubleshooting, see our Advanced Residential Proxy Targeting & SOCKS5 Guide.
➡️ Enabling Sticky Sessions
✔ Step 1: Access Sticky Session Settings
- ✔ Log in to your Rayobyte Dashboard.
- ✔ Click Get Started under Residential Proxies.
- ✔ Locate Sessions Selection and click Update.

✔ Step 2: Choose Between Soft and Hard Sticky Sessions
- Soft Sticky Sessions:Keeps the same IP for the selected duration as long as that residential connection remains available. If the IP disconnects, the system may rotate to another IP to maintain connectivity.
username123:password123-session-ABCDEFG@la.residential.rayobyte.com:8000
Note: Websites that load multiple subdomains or external resources may create additional requests. For stricter IP consistency, consider using
-hardsession. - Strict (Hard) Sticky Sessions:Attempts to maintain the same IP for the entire session duration. If that IP becomes unavailable, the request returns an error instead of automatically rotating to another exit IP.
username123:password123-hardsession-ABCDEFG@la.residential.rayobyte.com:8000

✔ Step 3: Set Your Session Duration
After selecting a Soft or Hard session, you can choose a duration from 1 to 60 minutes:
username123:password123-session-ABCDEFG-duration-10@la.residential.rayobyte.com:8000

Sticky Sessions can also be combined with ZIP/postal code or ASN targeting. See our Advanced Residential Proxy Targeting & SOCKS5 Guide for complete examples.
➡️ Combining Geo-Targeting & Sticky Sessions
To target Los Angeles, California, USA and request the same IP for 10 minutes:
username123:password123-country-US-region-california-city-los_angeles-session-DonUarN5-duration-10@la.residential.rayobyte.com:8000
Recommended format: Place location-targeting parameters before Sticky Session parameters for consistency and readability.
Targeting parameters can generally be processed in different orders. Using a consistent format simply makes your proxy credentials easier to manage and troubleshoot.
➡️ Retrieving Your Proxy List
- ✔ Go to Proxy List in your dashboard.
- ✔ Click Show to view your proxies.
- ✔ Click Download to save the list.
