➡️ How to Confirm Your Proxy Is Set Up Correctly

The method for verifying a proxy connection depends on the type of proxy and the authorization method being used.

  • ✔ Proxies may use IP authorization, username/password authentication, or both.
  • ✔ Rotating proxy services may display a different public IP than the entry or tunnel IP.

✔ Step 1: Configure the Proxy in Your Application

Set up the proxy in your browser, scraper, or application using the correct:

  • ✔ Proxy host and port
  • ✔ Authorization method (IP-authorized or username/password)

If you are unsure which authorization method applies to your proxy, refer to 'How Do I Authorize My Proxies?'

✔ Step 2: Check the Public IP

After configuring the proxy, visit an IP-checking website (e.g., whatismyipaddress.com) and observe the public IP shown.

  • Static Proxies (Dedicated, Semi-Dedicated, ISP, IPv6): The IP displayed should match one of your assigned proxy IPs.
  • Port-Based Rotating Proxies (Legacy): The displayed IP will differ from the entry IP and represents the currently active rotating exit IP.
  • Rotating Datacenter, Rotating ISP, Residential Proxies, and Web Unblocker: The IP may change per request or session and will not match a single static IP.

The key indicator of success is that the IP shown is not your local ISP's IP.

✔ Step 3: Interpret the Result

  • ✔ If the IP shown matches the expected behavior for your proxy type, the proxy is working correctly.
  • ✔ If you see your local IP, the proxy is not being used.
  • ✔ If the connection fails entirely, authorization or configuration may be incorrect.
