➡️ Why Targeted Connections May Fail
Rayobyte Residential Proxies rely on real residential internet connections. Availability changes as devices connect to and disconnect from the network.
If your proxy works without targeting but stops connecting after you add a region, city, ZIP code, or ASN, your credentials may still be correct. There may simply be no matching residential exit available at that moment.
➡️ Narrow Targeting and Availability
The more targeting parameters you add, the smaller the matching IP pool becomes.
- Country targeting generally provides the widest availability.
- Region and city targeting narrow the pool.
- ZIP and ASN targeting can be significantly more restrictive.
- Combining several narrow parameters may leave no matching exit available.
If no matching exit is available, your request may fail rather than return an IP from a broader or non-matching location.
➡️ Troubleshooting Steps
- Test the proxy without any targeting parameters.
- Add the required country.
- Add one additional parameter at a time.
- Retry the request after a short delay if it times out.
- Remove the city or ZIP code.
- Remove the ASN if the connection still fails.
- Contact support if a normally available target repeatedly fails.
➡️ Check Your Formatting
- Use the correct two-letter country code.
- Replace spaces with underscores in multi-word region, state, and city names.
- Include the
ASprefix when targeting an ASN. - Make sure each parameter begins with a hyphen.
- Verify that your base username and password work without targeting.
➡️ Common Symptoms
| Symptom | Possible Cause | What to Try |
|---|---|---|
| Authentication error | Incorrect credentials or malformed targeting parameters | Verify your username, password, and parameter formatting. |
| Connection timeout | No matching residential exit is currently available | Retry after a short delay, then broaden your targeting. |
| HTTP proxy error 552 | A matching exit may not currently be available | Retry, then remove the narrowest targeting parameter. |
| SOCKS5 reply code 5 | The connection was rejected or no usable exit was found | Test without targeting, then add parameters one at a time. |
| Correct country but unexpected city | Differences between third-party geolocation databases | Verify the IP using another reputable geolocation provider. |
➡️ Geolocation Database Differences
If the proxy connects and shows the correct country but an unexpected city, the issue may be related to differences between third-party geolocation databases.
Check the exit IP using more than one reputable IP lookup provider.
